i was on the train today, reading ‘life on planet rock’ by Lonn Freind, and as i was sitting there, sun beaming at me through the windows, moving ever so swiftly in my afternoon haze of vodka lemonades and long worked hours in the sunshine….. i was taken to my own upbringing and love with music.

now granted i do not have the experience that Lonn nor my sweetheart have in the music industry… but my heart and soul throb with the beat of every song i hear… but it is definitely in my blood. perhaps not so famously, but some of my earliest memories are sitting with my father, singing… either at home while he strummed on his accoustic guitar playing me old glassic rock songs, or at some small establishment singing ‘baby balluga in the deep blue sea’ by Raffi. it doesn’t really matter… where or what or with whom…

i will say though, that although both my parents influenced my music tastes, it was my father who turned me on to some of the greats. Jerry Lee Lewis, Pete Seger, Alice Cooper, all types of bluegrass, rock and country. black sabbath, bonnie rait, willie nelson, etc etc… and yet, here is the same man, who when as a young teenager, i became obsessed with eminem, was right there calling us all ‘slim shadys’.

i guess my whole point to this is nostalgia and adoration. for i just really fucking love music. and this book makes my heart warm. so thank you… every musician, my father, my man, every author, writer… and even you kids who play your buckets on michigan ave.
